  8. La5c Vie65t was the people of Phu2ng Nguye6n culture (2000-1400 BC) and
  9. D9o6ng So7n civilization (850-300 BC).  The La5c Vie65t people developed the
  10. tidal irrigation of rice fields through an elaborate system of canals and
  11. dikes, practiced wet-rice cultivation and developed their own bronze
  12. technology.  Bronze plowshares, fish hooks, and knives reveal a well-
  13. developed economy.  La5c Vie65t society was based on the family and the
  14. village commune.  Both kinship and inheritance are bilateral and women held
  15. political power.  At the regional level there was a loose hierarchy of the
  16. La5c lords, who controlled the communal settlements around each irrigated
  17. area, organized construction and maintenance of the dikes, and regulated the
  18. supply of water.
